An umbrella falls over and the logo changes to the Warner Bros
Chronology
Following the events of The Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin, attempts to take over Gotham's criminal underworld. From melted makeup to shooting in freezing temperatures, Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti discuss how they got into character during the production of "The Penguin." Colin Farrell fought hard to get his version of The Penguin to smoke tobacco in The Batman (2022), but was unsuccessful. However, for his own series, the character is depicted as a casual tobacco user, with a preference for cigars. The DC Studios logo is located in a rainy alley in Gotham City.
He got the tone and atmosphere just right
logo. Appears in Graham Norton i gosti: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024). Aggressive, grungy and dark, but Farrell is able to capture that spark of charm that Gandolfini's Tony Soprano managed. There are similarities to The Sopranos, especially in tone.
Where to start with Farrell
There's a lot of dark stuff in this opening episode, but there are comedic moments that match the tone and don't undermine it. Unbelievable is the right word. I love seeing talented star actors who get completely invested in roles like this, and the makeup/CGI or whatever they've done to physically transform him into the Penguin not only passes the visual test, but looks incredibly realistic. There's always the risk that if the makeup job isn't good enough or is a little off, it can be completely distracting.
I wasn't disappointed, in fact, it blew me away
In the case of the Penguin, it adds to his performance and the overall quality of the show because it's such good work. And Farrell, as an actor, is completely immersed in this role. Maybe I'm a little biased because he's one of my favorite actors before this show, but I think this is going to earn him well-deserved praise. I never tune into new shows right away because I like to watch the episodes all at once, but I wanted to see how this one actually turned out.
Kudos to everyone involved in this project
